Annabella has left the building.  A lot of favorites have come and gone, but none feels as much like a gut punch as Annabella. When Gallow Green became more of a trendy rooftop bar and less Annabella’s Secret Garden, we had a taste of what The McKittrick is like without her magical presence, and it’s not the soulful, spiritual place it was with her breathing her life into the very fiber of the space.

Ava Lee Scott is an actor– an amazing artist that puts immeasurable energy and passion into every role.  Annabella was an actor’s creation.  But there is absolutely no way that Annabella was not birthed out of her soul and from the true gift that Ava possesses.  For me the spiritual connection and love I felt from her when I sat with her at her table, or in her special room, or in any number of spaces throughout the McKittrick during the various parties is enough to make me a believer.  She has a gift.  She IS a gift, and one that hundreds  and hundreds of people have been blessed to open and be opened by.  I know many people who have felt her magic.  And last night I watched from across the room as another of Her Tribe had their final moments with her.  I watched  Annabella take a piece of her Gypsy jewelry off the table and place it around the teary-eyed woman’s neck.  They hugged–  not an actor-at-the-stage-door hug, but two loving souls saying a final goodbye.  The woman left, and Annabella turned to me, bidding me join her at the table.

We listened to Stella, who dedicated a song to her, and then we slipped away into her private room.  We talked about where we started, and the many tales her cards told through the years.  And she had me pick one last card, which, upon revealing, caused her face to light up with excitement as she told me of the good fortune this card foretells about where I am, and where i am heading.  And then she made me a beautiful and powerful potion.  Not just any potion, but a gigantic life-time supply potion. And she made me an herb bag, and gave me three beautiful peacock feathers.  And without prompting, made one for my brother, another loyal member of Annabella’s Tribe, although following from 3 thousand miles away.

Thank you, Annabella!  I will miss you.
